Steve Reich "Tehillim" 1981

Steve Reich composed a piece called Tehillim in 1981 which got a very proper CD release finally in 1995. He wrote it to reflect in his heritage. It's the Hebrew word for "psalms" though I don't think Reich is religious himself.

It's very different from his roots in minimalism, phasing, and other various experimental styles. It has more traditional classical instrumentation, so it sounds like something your grandpa might listen to.

But what's interesting is that there is no set rhythm for the music - the music is playing to the rhythm of the text itself being read. And yes, that does sound like a gimmick, but I assure you this is a very pleasant piece of music to any ear.
